Teeth Alignment

INVISALIGN ®. Invisalign aligners are the clear alternative to metal braces for adults and teens. These clear aligners are the virtually invisible way to improve your smile. The cost of Invisalign® treatment is similar to braces. Your aligners are customized for you.

People often wonder "How long does Invisalign take to straighten teeth?" A course of treatment with Invisalign takes approimately from 4 to 12 months for most adults, although actual time will vary from person to person. Many people start seeing a difference in their teeth within two to three months of starting to use the aligners

No Time For Braces and Wires? Call Us About Invisible Braces with Invisalign

In general, it is less painful than traditional metal braces, and like any type of orthodontic treatment, the pain fades after the teeth adjust to wearing the aligners and to having new aligners swapped in and out.

Cosmetic Dentistry

We offer a wide range of cosmetic dental services from simple resin fillings to full porcelain crowns and veneers. Dr Carreno is an artist and applies her artistry to her dental work. She works very hard to perfect each restoration. We commit ourselves to providing unparalleled patient care. Whether you have chipped, stained or missing teeth, we can enhance your smile with our array of high-quality services. These include Invisalign, crowns, dental implants, veneers composite fillings, SDF and teeth whitening.

Crowns

Dentistry is an art as well as a science; dental crowns offer a perfect example of this. Crowns are an investment in you. A dental crown or “cap” is a covering that fits over a damaged, decayed or unattractive tooth. It can even replace a tooth entirely as part of dental bridgework. Crowns can also be used to create a lifelike replacement for a missing tooth.

A crown completely covers a tooth upto and above the gum line. In contrast to a dental veneer, which only covers a tooth's front surface and needs natural tooth structure to support it. Therefore, if a tooth is missing a significant amount of structure above the gum line, a crown would be the restoration of choice.

Dental Crowns Protect Your Teeth

When you have severe cavities and your teeth need protecting, dental crowns are the way to go.

Dental crowns are caps that cover the entire surface of your tooth. The goal of using dental crowns is trifold:

  1. To restore your tooth to its natural shape and size

  2. To prevent future dental issues

  3. To maintain good oral health and prevent decay

Reasons for getting a dental crown

  • Broken or fractured teeth

  • Smile makeover (cosmetic enhancement)

  • Tooth decay

  • Fractured fillings

  • Large fillings

  • Root canal

Certified Dentistry

Dr Carreno is a highly certified dentist with over 40 years of experience. She strives to provide patients with the best treatment options possible while maintaining close relationships with her patients. A general dentist is your primary care dental provider. This dentist diagnoses, treats, and manages your overall oral health care needs, including gum care.

General Dentistry

We have been serving the Kilauea and North shore Kauai area for years. We take a preventative approach to your dental care. Our goal is to keep your teeth and gums healthy for a lifetime.

PREVENTATIVE MEASURES: Be sure to get an exam and cleaning every six months and use proper brushing and flossing techniques. In addition to exams and cleanings, we offer a range of general dentistry services including children’s dentistry, fillings, crowns and dentures.

Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. They are an ideal choice for improving your smile and have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity and versatility. Veneers are a conservative approach for treatment for tooth structure instead of cutting your tooth down for a crown. It is minimal removal of tooth structure. Also Veneers are ideal for beautification and having a renewed white smile. As we age the color of our teeth changes and veneers are ideal for brightening your smile and giving you a youthful younger appearance.

Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail. We place veneers routinely, and design each case individually to match and enhance the characteristics of each patient’s smile.

SDF is a safe, painless alternative to traditional cavity drilling procedures.

Now in Kauai with Dr. Ileana Carreno you can have Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver Diamine Fluoride has been used extensively around the globe for decades. Silver diamine fluoride has changed how we offer our patients the protection they deserve. Ideal for children or geriatrics. Gentle approach to dentistry. NO DRILLING.

Fillings

We are a mercury-free practice. However, many people still have silver/mercury fillings in their mouths from years past. These fillings are not particularly pleasing to the eye, and we know that by unavoidable design, silver/mercury fillings ultimately result in a weaker tooth structure. Talk to Dr. Carreno if you have concerns.

Porcelain inlays and tooth-colored restorations (onlays) create fillings that are not only beautiful (or unnoticeable) but also add strength to weakened teeth. These restorations are aesthetically pleasing and very strong, due to new bonding technologies.

Our fillings are performed under local anesthetic, and upon request we offer nitrous for a small fee to make your experience more comfortable. Dr. Carreno also utilizes a rubber dam to isolate the removal of mercury when drilling.

Implant Restoration

Implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants are tiny titanium posts which are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, dental implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration which occurs when teeth are missing.

Dr. Carreno relies on her relationships with dental surgeons and colleagues that have the dental armamentarium available. The dental armamentarium is the unique equipment and instruments used in the delivery of dental care.

Dental implants are changing the way people live! With them, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh and enjoy in comfort.

Hygienist

Dr. Carreno's Hygienists are extremely knowledgeable about gum disease. Treating your gums can help you avoid premature loss of teeth. Dr. Carreno works closely with her hygienists to ensure your dental health.

Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that can usually be reversed with daily brushing and flossing, and regular cleaning by a dentist or dental hygienist. This form of gum disease does not include any loss of bone and tissue that hold teeth in place.

Regular visits to your hygienists is important to you dental health and studies show that health gums guard against heart disease.

Dental hygienists clean teeth, examine patients for signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis, and provide other preventive dental care. They also educate patients on ways to improve and maintain good oral health.

Your dental hygiene is very important to us. It is tied to the health of the rest of your body and thus your dental health is very important to maintain. Make sure you make an appointment to see one of our amazing hygienists at least every 6 months to maintain your smile!

Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD, TMJ)

You Can Find Relief for Pain

TMJ The temporomandibular (tem-puh-roe-man-DIB-u-lur) joint (TMJ) acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull. You have one joint on each side of your jaw. TMJ disorders — a type of temporomandibular disorder or TMD — can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement. Dr. Carreno is trained in TMJ.

This is the only joint in your body that works in tandem.

Find Relief from Your Pain

It's important to realize that, if left untreated, TMJ dysfunction can actually escalate and become more disruptive. Left untreated, your TMJ problems may become more severe and simultaneously more difficult to treat. TMJ disorder can cause chronic, debilitating headaches.

Another common problem associated with untreated TMJ disorder is dental degradation. One cause of TMJ dysfunction is an uneven bite surface. When you cannot fit your teeth comfortably together, you may grind or clench your teeth, exacerbating TMJ problems. Over time this behavior can actually cause your teeth to age and wear down prematurely. Patients with severe grinding and clenching habits can even crack or chip their teeth, often when they are sleeping.

What Are the Symptoms?

Common symptoms of TMJ disorder include jaw soreness, headaches, and jaw clicking. These problems are annoying, and they can actually keep patients from eating and speaking normally. TMJ often causes severe pain and discomfort. It can be temporary or last many years. It might affect one or both sides of your face. More women than men have it, and it’s most common among people between the ages of 20 and 40.

  • Pain or tenderness in your face, jaw joint area, neck and shoulders, and in or around the ear when you chew, speak, or open your mouth wide can be signs that you need to speak with Dr. Carreno.

Dr. Carreno will help patients avoid the long-term problems of TMJ disorder by effectively treating TMJ problems in their earliest stages. Prompt treatment is key.
